On Thursday 11th June the new Derry Mayor, Councillor Liam Fleming, hosted Camara Africa ’09 volunteers in the civic office of the Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Derry. The Mayor acknowledged the contribution these volunteers will be making to the enhancement of IT training in seven countries in Africa.

In July, 85 teachers from across Ireland will volunteer 4 weeks of their time to teach the teachers in the schools which have already received computers. Six out of the thirteen northern volunteers on the programme are from the Derry area.

The support from the Lord Mayor in Derry is very important in the development of the links that Camara wishes to build with partner countries in Africa.
