Marie has just completed a 4 month Sales & Marketing internship with Camara and is returning to France to continue her studies. We would like to thank Marie for her hard work and wish her all the best for the future.

Marie & members of the Camara team

My name is Marie, I’m a French business student on exchange in Dublin. I had to complete an internship in an English-speaking environment in order to pass my second year of studies.

I volunteered with Camara for four months and it might sound cliché but these four months will stay engraved in my memory for a long time.

This was my first office job and I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I encountered amazing people, always ready to help me and answer my questions.

My main duties included looking after the content on the “Give computers” section of the website, working on email marketing campaigns, answering customers enquiries, and representing Camara at special events and fairs, like the ‘Africa Day’ celebrations, held in Farmleigh during May. My favourite part of the role was managing Camara’s Adwords campaigns on Google Search Engine.

No photocopies done for someone else, no coffee brought to someone, other than me! … I have to say I quite expected to have these kind of duties since I was only an intern. It never happened.

I was given real responsibilities, even in fields I had never experienced before.

I find it fantastic that Camara gave me the opportunity to expand my field of skills and my knowledge about marketing tools and techniques.

Another particularity of Camara is the diversity of people that are present in the office. I met people from Germany, Italy, the USA and of course from Ireland; many of my co-workers now have a special place in my heart.

I have always been the “weird kid”, I have that sparkle of craziness and passion that makes me different. If I should remember only one thing from my internship it would probably be the fact that I have been accepted in the team as I am. I have never felt out of place at Camara.

Camara relies a lot on volunteering and I am glad I brought my time and efforts to the wonderful cause that is education. If you have the opportunity, if you have the motivation, I can only encourage you to join Camara for a few weeks or months. Knowing that you can make a difference in the world is the best feeling ever. 🙂
