Camara Education has a lot to be thankful for, most notably our dedicated team of volunteers and staff across our hubs in Africa. Changez Ndzai is a passionate individual and is a key member of the Camara Education team in our Kenya hub and he has been reporting to us from the field in Mombasa. Here is his account.
The arrival of the KEN-29 Container in our Camara Hub here in Mombasa earlier this month of March was such a big step in the ongoing iMlango project which has recently been rolled out across several pilot schools in here Kenya. Our Kenyan Hub which consists of the sales and marketing team as well as our technical and training teams are working together to archive the objectives of this project.
The iMlango seeks to improve learning and educational outcomes for over 50,000 marginalised girls, across 195 primary schools across the four pilot counties in Kenya which are Makueni, Kilifi, Kajiado and Uasin-Gishu counties. Already the Training team did its first pilot instruction in five schools in Kilifi County. While the technical team is spreading its wings across the selected counties to make sure operations run smoothly as expected.
Apart from the iMlango project, the Agha Khan Foundation sponsored 10 schools in 2014 and this year they have extended their contract with us and have added another 15 schools in Mombasa and Kwale counties to further develop educational opportunities in schools here. The Agha Khan Foundation work to improve the welfare and prospects of people in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa, without regard to faith, origin or gender.
Camara Kenya also has benefited from a shipment of tablets and smart phones from Camara US and on Friday, March 27th, the shipment containing the products arrived at our offices. This project is targeted at women enterprise groups and its aim is to empower the local women here in Kenya on using ICT/businesses so as to make their businesses work easier on data collection and storage. This is expected to give our Hub a new look and high expectation of sustaining delivering of quality ICT devices and services at large.
