“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
eLearning centres and teacher training are at the heart of what Camara does. Sponsoring either of these will have a significant impact for children and teachers at the schools we work with.
eLearning Centre sponsorship:
|Currency||Amount (1)||Total Amount (2)|
- Net amount contributed by individual assuming they pay basic rate of income tax in Ireland, UK and USA respectively.
- Total amount raised assuming basic rate tax claimed back by Camara. This table does not apply to company or non-taxpayers.
Your investment will impact the lives of children like those in the Holy Tree School in Kenya that recently received an eLearning Centre from Camara.
Will receive basic digital literacy training and more advanced training in areas such as maintenance and ‘Teaching using ICT’.
Will get a fully functional computer lab. We guarantee that at least 50% of those using the centre will be women and girls.
Will have access to the Centre and will get digital literacy skills and the chance to use the technology in other subjects.
What each school gets
Machines are refurbished in our workshops and then tested again in our local Hub. They are typically between 3 and 5 years old.
Each school is expected to send 7 teachers to Camara’s training program. This program covers basic digital literacy skills, simple hardware maintenance, and how to use computers to teach other subjects.
Software is a linux-based ‘Ubuntu’ package that has been modified by Camara to include a large amount of free educational content. – OpenOffice, Wikipedia, Camara Skill Builders.
Technical support is provided by our local Hub should any equipment fail.
End of Life Recycling & Replacement
At the end of its life, the school can return the computer to the local Hub where it is recycled in an environmentally appropriate way and is replaced with a comparable machine at the same price.
