Camara Kenya was established in 2008 in Mombasa, and became the first Camara Hub in Africa. Since the first container full of computers arrived Camara Kenya has set up computer labs in 265 schools with an estimated 30,000 users across the country. Camara Kenya is working on projects which address the needs of marginalized and disadvantaged schools, in order to ensure they reap the benefits of access to ICT in an appropriate and needs-based manner. Schools range from primary to tertiary, with computer content specific to each learning group. Camara Kenya is a volunteer based NGO which aims to pass on ICT knowledge to the people of Kenya and to support the future needs of schools by creating a supply of computer technicians that can provide high quality technical support. Camara Kenya’s ultimate mission is to alleviate poverty in disadvantaged communities by using technology to enhance education.
