On a cold and wet Saturday morning a few volunteers arrived into to UCD. By lunch we had transported 186 computers, donated by UCD staff, to Camara HQ for refurbishment. The previous week through the combined effort of UCD Volunteers Overseas and UCD Services personnel a major initiative had been put in place to gather up all old unused computers in offices across the campus.
The response was phenomenal with whole computers being donated and a large range of useful bits such as mice, keyboards, scanners, printers etc. Staff were also encouraged to donate computers from their home – which they did so readily. It’s now over to Camara volunteers to get the machines ready for shipping to Tanzania where in partnership UCD Volunteers we plan to set up new computer labs in Tanzanian secondary schools.
