Camara Galway is hosting a computer drop off event next Wednesday, 3rd July, on the NUI Galway Campus from 10am – 6pm. If you need to get rid of your old computer equipment, you can donate it to Camara who will reuse it to enrich the lives of disadvantaged students throughout the world. We will take in your monitors, desktops, computer leads, laptops and mice.
Camara will wipe all information from the hard drive of each computer you donate. To ensure further peace of mind, you’ll receive a certificate declaring that your data has been deleted to the standard set by the US Department of Defence (5220.22M). Your computer is then refurbished at our workshop, where we install educational software and teacher training packs before its dispatched to one of our hubs located in Ireland, Africa or the Caribbean.
Over half a million computers are disposed of each year in Ireland needlessly. Each reused computer given to Camara provides digital literacy skills for 21 children, who are then able to access the elearning programmes that have been installed. Camara also provides teacher training, ensuring that the computers are integrated into the daily lesson plans. Since its foundation in 2005, Camara has shipped over 40,000 refurbished computers to 2,000 low income schools and trained over 11,000 teachers.
Drop Off Event: 10am – 6pm, Wednesday 3rd July
Location: Camara NUI Galway Hub, 18 Distillery Road (travelling towards Moycullen on the Newcastle Road, turn right into NUI Galway at the AIB bank)
