The school was established in 1982 in Hosaena, a small town 4 hours south of Addis Ababa. The school gives vocational training for hearing-impaired children who are selected from different regions of the country. The training include construction, wood working, computer studies and sewing. Currently the school has 220 students , of which 104 are Females.
“It’s not easy teaching the children without proper facilities. Most of them start school at the age of 7-12 and they are very shy to communicate with people. What we do is we print out each student’s name and picture and label it on their desk and we would teach them their name and how to say their name in sign language.” School Deputy Principal Mr Aynalem Asefa.
The Computer Lab will encourage the children to stay in school.
Being computer literate will open up more job & educational opportunities.
