ESB Partnership
About
ESB is Ireland’s leading energy company, established in 1927. Since its foundation, ESB has brought light and energy to communities across Ireland and beyond, helping them to reach their full potential.
Today, ESB is continuing this and is driven to make a difference by delivering net zero emissions by 2040.
ESB’s transformative drive is centred around developing and connecting decarbonised electricity, investing in resilient infrastructure and empowering the customers and communities we serve.
Camara Education / ESB Partnership
ESB and Camara have been working together for over ten years to further ESB’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, and Camara’s determination to transform the lives of disadvantaged students through educational technology. In 2022, ESB agreed to donate up to 5,000 end-of-life IT devices, including laptops, desktops and other equipment, to Camara. Through supporting partners, these laptops and desktops are collected from ESB and processed to the highest environmental and data-security standards, before being delivered to Camara’s hubs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia.
The IT equipment is then used in the delivery of a range of teacher-training and innovative learning programmes.
Results
From ESB’s point of view, the long-standing partnership with Camara helps reduce waste and carbon emissions around the disposal of IT equipment while also delivering transformative digital education to some of the world’s poorest countries. The process of collection and processing of the equipment works seamlessly and securely, with full reports on exactly what has happened with each asset. For Camara, enduring relationships ensure that we can have certainty about the delivery of our projects, and our connection with ESB is an exemplar of long-term cooperation.
Donor Comments
“At ESB, we are proud to invest in individuals and communities right across the world, helping them to reach their full potential. Our long-standing support of Camara Education aligns with many other initiatives across ESB that help young people to advance their skills and knowledge through education. In addition to the positive environmental benefits that this partnership brings, we are proud to see the difference that it is making in communities across Africa.”
